Sustainability isn’t a box we tick. It’s the foundation of everything we build.

We’re very particular in the standards of materials and work achieved on our projects and we’ve already described, with some pride, the incredible strength, fortitude and longevity of every SpaceMan building.

That said, in our experience almost every company claims to have the best product or service. They also often claim to be the most honest, chaste, faithful, generous, charitable, frugal, genuine and focused in their field. Kind to animals. And brilliant at cricket too.

So, instead of doing all that, we prefer to provide our credentials and let you, the intelligent client, decide if we are the best organisation for you.

Tradesmen

Our tradesmen are experts, with combined experience nonchalantly measuring into centuries, so there’s less than zero chance that they will not have encountered before.

Container conversion demands a different level of precision to conventional construction — understanding structure, tolerances, load paths, insulation detailing and services integration within a steel shell. This is work our team is deeply familiar with.

In fact, our most experienced tradesman has built five houses for himself across his career, never mind the countless dozens of homes for clients. That depth of personal and professional experience shows in the decisions made on site, the finish achieved, and the problems avoided before they ever arise.

The result is a conversion that feels considered, robust and properly built — not adapted, improvised or compromised.

Insulation

Heavy insulation is standard on every SpaceMan project to ensure your completed building is impervious to anything the elements can throw at it. Warm in winter, cool in summer.

Every inch of the inner metal core is professionally coated with spray-on insulation (Icynene non-toxic expanding foam), this technique having long been proven the most effective.

Externally the core is blessed with the unshakeable might of Kingspan’s 150mm SIPs panels and/or high quality PIR (Polyisocyanurate) insulation boards- the equivalent of a building wearing two bearskin coats.

Glazing

All SpaceMan buildings are fitted exclusively with aluminium-framed double glazing.

Aluminium offers exceptional strength and resistance to warping, corrosion and weathering, making it ideally suited to year-round garden buildings.

The slim profile of the frames allows for larger glazed areas, bringing in more natural light while maintaining excellent thermal performance.

With a projected lifespan of 35+ years, and manufacturer guarantees on glazing and components, this is a long-term investment in comfort, performance and build quality.

Timber, Plaster & Steel Core

Depending on the size of your building the super robust Covex container which makes up the building’s steel core can carry up to 29 tons and weighs approximately 3 tons in itself.

Containers typically have a live load carrying ability of 250 lbs per square foot. Awesome. To illustrate, a typical commercial building has a carrying ability of 100 lbs per square foot. A residential property just 40lbs per square foot.

So your annexe will be stronger than your house.

The container is manufactured from corten steel, a specially formulated metal that, when the surface rusts, prevents any further rust from eating deeper into the metal, which makes it all but impervious to any structural degradation. In short, there is next to no chance the core structure of your building will fail.

So we are more than confident when providing a guarantee of fifty years on your building’s structure.
